Determines per-country quota chargeability under INA §202(b) and Diversity Visa eligibility. It does not change with naturalization elsewhere — a person born in India and now a Canadian citizen remains chargeable to India.

What nationality you currently hold

Determines treaty-based options (E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B1, TN) and Visa Waiver Program eligibility. The current entry bans also apply by nationality.
