Territories where one's birth entitles one (except foreign sovereigns, foreign diplomats and their families) to U.S. citizenship at birth: continental USA and Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands (as of November 28, 2009)

Territories where one's birth entitles one to the acquisition of U.S. nationality, but not citizenship: American Samoa

Nonimmigrant visas are generally not required for Canadian citizens, except those Canadians that fall under nonimmigrant visa categories E, K, S, or V

The Cuban Adjustment Act allows any citizen of Cuba who has been inspected and admitted or paroled into the United States after January 1, 1959; has been physically present for at least one year; and, is not inadmissible to the United States, to petition for permanent residence. Cubans are also eligible to participate in the the Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery Program (DV Lottery) administered annually by the U.S. Department of State

Countries whose citizens and nationals are subject to the immigrant visa prorating provisions of Title I, Chapter I, Section 202(e) of Immigration and Nationality Act (as amended) and apply to allocations for a foreign state or dependent area when visa demand exceeds the per-country limit. These provisions apply at present to the following oversubscribed chargeability areas: China-mainland born, India, Mexico, and the Philippines

Participating visa waiver program countries. Currently, 41 countries participate in the program (visa-free entry for their citizens into the U.S. as visitors for up to 90 days): Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom*.

*To be eligible to travel under the VWP, British citizens must have the unrestricted right of permanent abode in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man.

For DV-2025 (Diversity Visa Lottery), nationals of the following countries are not eligible to apply: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, The People’s Republic of China (including mainland and Hong Kong born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Venezuela, and Vietnam.
Natives of Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.
Nationals of of the United Kingdom and its dependent territories are now eligible for DV-2025.
